The Martinez Brothers, a prestigious duo of disc jockeys, music producers, and remixers from The Bronx, New York, are renowned for their extended residencies at clubs in Ibiza. In 2014, Mixmag heralded them as the DJs of the year, extolling that “no other DJ or DJ duo envelops house music in 2014 like the crown.”
The prodigious Martinez Brothers were born and raised in the Bronx of New York, exposed to music from an early age as their father took it upon himself to provide them with a musical education, introducing them to the church band.
Eager to learn, they ventured forth to collaborate with more experienced musicians, immersing themselves in myriad musical styles, from disco to soul to salsa. Their father, recognizing their enthusiasm, graciously presented them with their first set of DJ equipment, inspiring them to pursue dance music professionally and ever since, has been a steadfast supporter of their dreams.
As the years progressed, the brothers’ dedication to their craft of music production allowed them to become acquainted with the exciting New York dance music scene. Impressing the acclaimed DJ Dennis Ferrer, he took them under his wing and provided them with beneficial connections in the industry, granting them the privilege of performing in renowned clubs and venues.
In 2011, they received an invitation to Ibiza, Spain for their inaugural DJ residency, and were to begin spinning at the renowned Ushuaïa club with their tutor, Dennis Ferrer. However, this agreement unfortunately dissolved at the last moment, so they instead sought out their friend and DC-10 booker, Elliot Shaw, for assistance.
Since 2014, The Martinez Brothers have kept up an active global tour itinerary. During this time, they have consistently held residencies at the prestigious Ibizan club. Moreover, they have often featured in shows on behalf of their joint label, Tuskegee Records, and its co-owner Seth Troxler. In addition to this, Tuskegee has also served as a platform to showcase their unique musical creativity.
In 2014, they had the esteemed honor of collaborating with renowned high-end fashion designer Riccardo Tisci to compose the musical landscape for Givenchy’s menswear and women’s wear fall/winter 2014 and spring 2015 collections. Furthermore, they have since established their own prestigious label, Cuttin’ Headz.
In 2014, the Martinez Brothers received a special invitation from Nile Rodgers to collaborate on his upcoming album It’s About Time. Being the only non-Chic cohort to be chosen, they added percussive elements to the lead single “I’ll Be There.” For their efforts, they released a free EP titled Masters At Dutch in May 2015. It was a momentous occasion for the two of them.
