Blasterjaxx, the Dutch DJ and record producer duo, is composed of Thom Jongkind (born 1990) and Idir Makhlaf (born 1991). They have been active since 2010 and are mostly known for their big room house and electro house music.
In 2010, Thom Jongkind, known to his fans as Scalix, formed a duo called Blasterjaxx with producer Leon Vielvoije. Unfortunately, Vielvoije left soon after joining, but Jongkind persevered and continued under the Blasterjaxx name. He started collaborating with Idir Makhlaf, known in the music world as Macosta. Makhlaf eventually became an official member of Blasterjaxx, and together they’ve gone on to create some great music!
In 2012, the Reborn EP was released as a collaboration with D-Rashid, containing two great tracks, “Reborn” and “Where We Go.” The Dutch EDM producer and DJ, Laidback Luke, was so impressed with the tracks that he signed them to his own label Mixmash Records.
In 2013, the group produced “Loud & Proud” with Billy The Kit. DJ Tiësto then signed the track to his record label, Musical Freedom. In June 2015, Blasterjaxx teamed up with Electric Family, an electronic music lifestyle brand, to produce a collaboration bracelet. 100% of the proceeds from the bracelet sales were donated to the 20x20x20 Foundation.
In September 2015, Makhlaf announced he was going to stop touring, but continue to produce music with Jongkind, because of his panic attacks.
Blasterjaxx’s 2013 single “Faith” was a big charting success in the Netherlands and Sweden, and they later released a collaboration with Hardwell. In DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs poll, they first entered at #71 in 2013 and reached #13 by 2014.
Blasterjaxx has given new life to the Tiësto hits “Adagio for Strings” and “Love Comes Again” with their remixes, and also collaborated with him on a remix of “United,” the official anthem of Ultra Music Festival. With additional collaboration credits from EDM acts such as Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, David Guetta, and Hardwell, Blasterjaxx is quickly making a name for themselves in the electronic music scene.
